What is Alpha?
Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone’s welcome. It runs in cafés, churches, universities, homes—you name it. No two Alphas look the same, but generally they have three key things in common: food, a talk and good conversation.

Calgary Learns funds non-profit organizations to provide part-time foundational learning opportunities for adult Calgarians who face social and economic barriers to learning. This 1-day pilot will provide opportunities for you to gain the understanding you need to be flexible and adaptable when training others in technology.
This interactive session will provide tools that you can use to encourage learners to identify common concepts, structures and navigational methods, rather than a “step-by-step, how-to approach.”
Facilitation/instruction is based on best practise in adult learning and brain learning. Strategies and activities that can be used with adult learners will be modeled throughout the day.
Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will gain an understanding of common concepts, structures and navigation methods present across the many different technology tools found in work, play and community, that include but are not limited to tablets, phones and computers.
  • Participants will be able to transfer this knowledge to enhance existing classes or design new ones that better address the rapid changes occurring in the world of technology.
  • Participants will receive current relevant resources that will support their work in building technology skills with foundational and literacy learners.
  • Participants will be provided with information related to methods of instruction like the flipped classroom, gamification, e-mobile learning and problem solving.

2018 Crossway Ministry Initiatives

New from Crossway

The Urgent Need of the Gospel

“How shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation . . .
He is able to save to the uttermost . . .”
Hebrews 2:3; 7:25

Dear Friend of Crossway,

Recently, we invited you and many others around the world to partner with us in the work of the Gospel by making an end-of-year financial contribution to our work and ministry. As we near the close of 2017, we wanted to extend this invitation to you one final time.

I would be most grateful for your continued urgent prayers and gracious support for a number of ongoing ministry projects, and new ministry initiatives planned for this coming year, including:

  • Strategic support for the translation of ESV Study Bible notes and resources into a number of crucial languages—including Arabic and Tamil which are especially important in reaching strategic areas of the world—as well as a number of other important world languages.
  • Ongoing development and expansion of digital Bible study resources for free distribution around the world, which this year (2017) included more than 339,000,000 requests for free online access to the ESV Bible.

Given the urgency of these and other Crossway ministry initiatives planned for next year, we would be grateful for your prayers for the Lord’s gracious hand of provision—and if you would likewise consider helping to support Crossway by making an end-of-year contribution. Every donation made will be used fully to further the not-for-profit publishing and distribution ministry of Crossway.

Thank you for your gracious consideration, as the Lord leads you in His own way—with all glory to God alone, and with great thanksgiving for you and your partnership in the Gospel.

In Christ our Savior,

Lane T. Dennis
President and CEO

“I thank my God in all my remembrance of you . . .
because of your partnership in the gospel.”
Philippians 1:3, 5

Revitalise: Fresh ideas mission in for 2018

PRAC: Stories of revitalisation around Australia

Church Revitalisation is about keeping our churches healthy, hopeful and living out God's purposes for them. It's not a one fit process or methodology that works for every church. It can happen through many different avenues. The stories shared in this issue of PRAC haven't been without challenges, but they are processes enacted to restore churches to a place where God is seen clearly at work, where people are growing closer to him and impacting their communities for God's kingdom.

Statistics show that some Baptist Churches in Australia are stagnating or declining. As with the stories shared on the following pages, some have shrunk to the point of facing closure. Our hope is that through the stories of local Baptist churches shared in this magazine, and the varying processes followed, you will learn and be inspired by the way God could work in your church. That could be because you are facing a difficult future with the current size and climate of your church. Or, it could be that your church is blessed with vitality and resources at present and God might be calling you to consider how you share that.

If this issue of PRAC stirs some inspiration or raises questions for your church, we’d encourage you to reach out to your State consultant or your Crossover Taskforce Rep. They have resources and support available to guide you through considering a revitalisation process, or becoming a sending church.

My prayer is that these articles will be a helpful and encouraging tool as we partner in ‘Helping Australian Baptists Share Jesus’

Keith Jobberns,
Crossover Director.

PRAC was sent to Baptist churches around Australia in December. Please contact the Cat at the Crossover office is you'd like to be sent more copies [email protected] or you can click here to read it online now

Tell us what you think and win!

Emerging Evangelist Nominations

We would love to hear your feedback about how you used our Christmas resources for 2017, and what you thought of them!

We've created a quick 10 question survey to gather your feedback, and we'd really appreciate your taking the time to fill it out quickly for us! We want to make good, useful and helpful tools, that equip you and your church to share Jesus. So, gathering your feedback will help us to continue to improve on and create new resources.

To say thanks for taking the time to tell us what you thought, the first 8 people to complete the survey will receive a free copy of Warren Crank's book "Unofficial Chaplain". Please make sure you enter your email address and name at the end of the survey to go in the competition to win this book. (So we can contact you if you win!).

Please be aware that Survey Monkey website will be shut down for maintenance on 5th January (USA time) and no surveys can be completed during that time.

The purpose of the Emerging Evangelists Conference is to affirm, invest in and equip emerging evangelists in each State who could benefit from getting together with other experienced evangelists who can offer mentoring and essential experience. The vision of the conference is to raise up a new generation of evangelists, people who will make a difference in their local church as well as the wider region. This conference is an opportunity for emerging evangelists to be sown into and empowered into Kingdom ministry.

The conference is an invitation-only event.  It comprises the Crossover National Taskforce plus up to 25 participants drawn from each state, approximately in line with each state’s population.

Emerging Evangelists Conference 2018 will be run in Sydney in April!

If you would like to nominate someone from your church to attend, please complete the form linked below and it will be sent to your state rep.

Last Chance Jesus the Game Changer

The national Jesus the Game Changer campaign will kick off on 25th Feb and run up until Easter. Baptist Churches around Australia have signed up to be a part of the campaign, and Olive Tree Media have developed extra resources to assist churches in running the series, as well as organising a national radio campaign.

Now is the time to sign up if you haven't yet and get your church ready.

According to the recent Faith & Belief Research released by McCrindle and Olive Tree Media, the majority of Australians are warm towards Christian faith, they want to feel they belong to a community group but surprisingly 56% don’t know anything about their local churches. As church leaders, we need to change that! This campaign will give your church the opportunity to connect with your local community.

This will be a great opportunity to help people learn more about Jesus and equip your church to share about their faith and why Jesus is so important. There are a number of different ways you could run the series to suit your context, whether you are a church plant, large church, small church, simple church or multi cultural congregation. Karl has made a short video of examples you can watch by clicking here.

Find out more about the campaign and register your church at :

Click here to watch the trailer for the series.

Click here to watch an introduction to the campaign.

We'd love you to be praying each month for the ministry of Crossover & for Baptists around Australia sharing Jesus!

  • Thank and Praise God for the many opportunities to share Jesus with our communities, families and friends over Christmas! (& the freedom to do that, that we are blessed with in Australia!)
  • Pray for those whose hearts were challenged or convicted by God over Christmas, that His Spirit will spur them on to keep learning more about Him in the coming weeks and months. Ask God that they will accept His offer of grace and come into relationship with Him
  • Pray for those who are following up with those people in the prayer point above! Pray that God will speak clearly through them and they will be open to being used by God to help others come into relationship with Him
  • Pray for those preparing to run the Jesus the Game Changer series during February and March. Pray also for those who God is going to bring along to participate that their hearts will be open to learn and they will feel welcomed into our faith communities.
